Semco Motion Products / Larsen Mfg – Our Story
The company Semco Revolving Units began building machines to turn signs back in the early 1960’s. They incorporated simple and robust machine designs that have proven very dependable and tested by time. SRU was located in Salt Lake City until 1980.
In 1980 Richard Larsen, longtime manager for SRU purchased Semco and continued the tradition of building dependable sign rotators. The number of industries they serve continues to grow each year.
Shawn Larsen took over operations of Semco Motion products in 2017. The company continues to develop new products of both rotating and non-rotating machines. We manufacture all sizes of rotational devices for signs and displays. We also fabricate products for special projects that our customers to meet immediate needs. Some of these fabricated products then become integrated in our manufacturing process to keep up with customer demand.
Shawn began machining as a teenager at Semco and later spent 10 years in aerospace (fastener) manufacturing for Cherry Textron, and then 6 years in the construction industry specializing in motorized and regular scaffolding. This experience of lean manufacturing and construction has led to many scaffolding and construction equipment fabrication projects.
Semco / Larsen Mfg continues as a family owned business into the next generation. We have expanded into CNC machining and welding services. Our CNC machining is headed up by Rick Larsen who is a long time CNC machinist. Rick has over 40 years machining experience and he oversees sales and production of machining.
